The Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant is one of the most ambitious engineering projects in the world. A plant that supplies 16.4% of the energy consumed in Brazil and supplies 71.3% of Paraguayan consumption. Built to retain the course of the Paraná River, the dam is an immense 8-kilometer-long, 167-meter-high concrete structure that circumvents the Itaipu Binacional reservoir and on which are installed the ducts and the electric power generating units .
